Highlights

Mike Gillespie from Advent IM will kick off the event with a presentation looking at how the FM is now at the forefront of the fight against cyber-crime thanks to hackers increasingly targeting organisations through their BMS and other FM related technologies such as desk sensors. Google’s Wharf 7 office in Sydney, Australia was hacked via the BMS by two security expert researchers who were able to access the building control panel showing the layout of water pipes in the third floor. In other cases, the US Department of Homeland Security reported that hackers had broken into a state government facility and made it 'unusually warm', while in the Ukraine a power station was hacked leaving nearly 80,000 customers without power. The trend towards IOT devices in properties means that cyber-hacking is no longer the sole concern of the IT department. FM is now at the forefront of the fight against cyber-crime.  Gillespie will explain the risks involved for FMs and how to counteract them.

The IOT is fast becoming a reality but what does all the terminology mean and how will it benefit Facilities Management?

Mark Davenport, CEO of Smart Buildings, will present on how the IOT can allow FM’s to control their portfolio of buildings with the use of ground breaking technologies. Having delivered a number of high profile projects globally Davenport will provide examples of the successes and pitfalls of this innovation.

The Smart Workplace

Continuing with the theme, Ana Stanojevic, Workplace Director at JLL will talk about how user centric Smart Workplace can unlock your workplace potential and increase productivity. She will explain how getting your technology strategy aligned with your workplace strategy drives an enhanced experience.

What cost do you put on innovation in your FM service delivery? And how do you measure it?

Lucy Jeynes from Larch Consulting will explore how the FM sector delivers innovation and how both clients and service providers can get better at demonstrating innovation at the procurement stage.

Relocation

Meanwhile Colin Mooney, head of health, safety and facilities at The Crown Estate will talk about the approach the organisation took when it moved to its new home at St James Market, together with a look at the technology which supports the facility.

Other speakers

Other speakers include Mark Catchlove from Herman Miller on his research looking at creating an environment for innovation. Tech guru Greg Williams, Editor-in-Chief of WIRED Magazine, will close the day by talking about the future of technology and its impact on the built environment.
