Michael Gove’s 72 Upper Ground Development Decision on Public Inquiry Delayed

Michael Gove’s 72 Upper Ground Development Decision on Public Inquiry Delayed
09 August 2023

The results of a public inquiry into the 72 Upper Ground redevelopment project at London’s South Bank have been delayed by two months.

Mitsubishi Estate and CO—RE secured the London site for £145.6m in November 2019. However, their proposals to transform the former TV Studios building went to a public inquiry on 6 December 2022 after objections from local residents the Coin Street Community Group and heritage groups such as The Twentieth Century Society. Concerns included the potential impact on nearby listed buildings such as the National Theatre and IBM Building.

It was expected that a decision on the inquiry was to be issued by Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Michael Gove on or before 8 August 2023.

This decision will now be made public on or before 6 October 2023.
