The Internet of Things - A Webinar Invite

IoT

The Internet of Things. With new sensors, gateways and uses cropping up almost daily, is it time for management Apps to step up their game? And is it time you joined a Webinar on the subject for a little perspective?

See end of article for webinar details.

With the incessant noise of false information in the market place, alongside a stream of often questionable information regarding the subject, it is no wonder that many professionals in FM are finding it hard to make sense of IoT in their business. The goal of implementing an IoT strategy seems more daunting than ever before.

Fortunately, mpro (or Crimson Tide mpro to give the company its full name) has just launched mpro5THINGS, their IoT solution, which is the result of over 18 months of intensive research and consulting with industry experts, creating an offering that goes way beyond sensors and data capture.

With the launch of mpro5THINGS, mpro have created a way of utilising the data collected in a meaningful way, analysing data, creating workflows and jobs off the back of data and embracing machine learning and AI to improve the efficiency of FM operations.

Alice Barrett of mpro said: "Whilst many companies were excited about sensors and all the data they would provide, there were no solutions available to fully utilise the power of IoT. What they discovered was that the real value of IoT comes when passive monitoring and manual intervention are removed. Through the mpro5THINGS app and website you can set rules surrounding the data and readings, set up alerts for anomalies and provide a manageable way to view, report and analyse your business data."

Example

Barrett points to an example; "A simple yet effective way of demonstrating the value is with temperature sensors in a commercial fridge. The rules are put in place to tell mpro5THINGS what an acceptable temperature reading and range is. If a reading outside of this rule is recorded an alert is sent, letting you know something is wrong before it becomes a problem. Coupled with the original mpro5 workforce management solution, a job can be automatically scheduled to an engineer, removing that need for manual intervention. The engineer arrives, with all of the information and tools they need to complete their work. The job is completed and the job completion report is sent automatically to management. Suddenly your workforce is optimised and you are able to allocate time and resources more effectively. All of this is achieved with a full audit trail and transparency, allowing you to build a real picture of your business based on the data and save valuable time and money."

The wild, wild, west

It isn’t just the software that was lacking in the IoT space according to the folks at mpro - one company engineers says the hardware market was like the wild, wild, west - loads of firms prospecting and lots of cowboys selling whatever they could get their hands on. "Inferior sensors to gateways, there are simply thousands, all purporting to do a million and one things - and lots that don't do anything useful and those that open users up to hacking," he said.

Barrett reported: "A large part of mpro5THINGS is the quality of the hardware provided and the stability of the chosen network that the data is transmitted over. Through thorough testing, we've selected a small but perfectly formed range of hardware, that has proven to be both affordable, reliable and future proof, allowing customers to invest in a solution that will grow with their business."

Apollo launch

mpro5THINGS is part of the brand new mpro5 release, code named ‘Apollo’. This was a project launched to completely rebuild and redesign the mpro5 app and website, ensuring it is intuitive, attractive and most importantly effective in businesses.
