Read Full ArticleWayne Tantrum certainly has some grand ambitions for the next five years. He wants Vertex Services to make “The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies To Work For” list, and prove that companies providing hard services can lead the way on tackling the climate crisis.
“If engineering companies out there aren’t looking at how they can impact climate change, then they're probably not doing the right things.”, The Managing Director of Vertex Services told ThisWeekinFM.
In this exclusive Spotlight Interview, Tantrum tells us that in this sector, it all starts when you mobilise a contract. By getting into the detail of how equipment performs, reporting that back to the client and advising on best practice. And this isn’t his first involvement in environmental concerns. Under his role as General Manager at Siemens FM, Tantrum helped the UK team achieve global international achievement awards for multiple sustainability programmes.
“For me, it’s all about leadership and making sure you take the opportunities you had and passing them on. I’m going to make sure that with our people and our staff, that we recognise that they want to progress, and that we look at how we can identify those on a career path. As we grow, we can map out succession plans and put in training programmes that really get them to where they want to be.”

Managing Director, Vertex Services
Tantrum attributes big contract wins (Vertex have the prestigious Kings Cross Estates Services contract) and the continued growth of the company to, quite simply, focus on the delivery of service.
He says, “As a service-based business, we are only as good as the people we employ”.

Tantrum describes the mentorship he received at Siemens FM as “fantastic” and credits this with inspiring him to foster similar relationships with his workforce:
“Every time I see our apprentice I tell him ‘you’re going to be the next MD’ and I believe that can be the case”
