Careers in Procurement – Military Experience in the FM Sector

Read Full ArticleISS UK has five finalists in the IWFM Impact Awards 2021, including its JointForces@ISS Project.
The awards showcase outstanding best practice in facilities management, with the winners announced on 11th October 2021.
The JointForces@ISS programme is nominated for the Social Value award. The project supports armed forces veterans and their spouses into the job market, helping bring their unique skills to a range of companies and sectors, including ISS.
The projects cover both private and public sector, ranging from the sustainability partnership with high street bank TSB’s Net Zero programme, through to the ISS portering team at Royal Derby Hospital:
The project with high street bank, TSB, aimed to accelerate their path to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. TSB CEO, Suresh Viswanathan commented of ISS, “There’s a great team behind the scenes, doing all the hard work on baselining, reporting and defining our approach to how we reach our targets.”
Kate Osiadacz, who leads TSB’s responsible business strategy, The Do What Matters Plan, added, “Working with experts from ISS has helped us accelerate and strengthen our ambitions to become a more environmentally responsible business. Their methodical approach to tackling the huge challenges we face with climate change, and the insight they have on the subject, has proven invaluable.”
The award-wining ISS ServicePoint technology solution saved the equivalent of 190+ clinical shifts at one site which allows healthcare staff to invest the time in hands-on patient care. ServicePoint provides a smart and efficient way for clinical workers to communicate with the facility management helpdesk when telephones were unavailable or out of reach.
ISS Great People on the frontline are also in contention, with the 160+-strong portering team at Derby Hospital, shortlisted for Team of the Year (non-private sector). ISS Porters are integral to the movement and flow of the site, performing duties which have direct, positive impact on the hospital’s successful performance - and every patient and stakeholder who interacts with the hospital.
Porters at Derby are often the first and last touchpoints throughout the patient and clinician journey. In a ‘normal’ non-covid year the team handles 78,000 patient-related moves; delivery of specimens; moving 2,000 tonnes of waste and of course, being the welcoming face at the start and end of a hospital visit.
The second financial sector entry is for a global partnership programme to redesign a central campus into a world-class modern, adaptable work environment within a greenbelt heritage location. As part of the integrated FM project, 7,400sq m of previously developed land and sites will be "re-greened" for more sustainable, flexible use by 4,000 employees.
