2023 Judging Process

Each individual created a short video which they submitted with their application and CV. The twenty best were reviewed by an independent panel of judges to select the ten finalists.

All the finalists were invited to an assessment day and put through rigorous tests by nine judges. Each of them took part in a traditional interview, a role play and a phone play scenario as well as a group exercise to see how they behaved in a team.

Winner Shannon Sullivan, said: “I have realised that being a receptionist is what I am destined to do and exactly where I am meant to be. My journey is relatable to so many other corporate receptionists and I want to exemplify the heights you can reach if you only believe and have a can-do attitude. My colleagues have been so supportive and have truly made me feel very lucky to be in this position.”

Highly Commended Finalist Laura-Marie Bruce, Portico at PricewaterhouseCoopers said “I'm not ‘Just a Receptionist’ – I'm an asset to the company I work for. I am grateful and proud of who I am and the job I perform, day in, day out.”

Highly Commended Finalist Fara Painter, OnVerve at Legal & General, said “I want to show the world that it doesn’t matter where you are from or what limitations you think you may have, everything is achievable if you work hard and are kind to others.”

The Judges

Derek Williams Head Judge & Founder of The WOW! Awards said “I have just judged the finalists and I would love to employ them all!  They demonstrated amazing standards of professionalism and skill in delivering great service.  These awards are most definitely raising standards for Corporate Receptionists in all sectors and encouraging new people to enter the industry.”

Jo Tattum, Judge & Head of Partnerships at Moneypenny added “I thoroughly enjoyed every stage of the judging process and in particular meeting the finalists. I was absolutely blown away by the talent. The creativity for some of the applications was fantastic. Wow! What an incredible group of people.
