Global economies and corporations are collaborating to construct and finance multiple clean energy projects across international lands and waters. ThisWeekinFM Guest Editor, Daniel Lynn, has selected a number of news items that exemplify an active international energy transition.


UK 

UK clean energy company OnPath Energy has announced that they will invest around £1 billion into energy projects across the UK over the next 5 years. OnPath Energy currently own and operate a number of wind farms across Scotland and northern England. 

Inital stages of project development are underway for a 500MW-600MW solar battery project located in Lincolnshire.  The Leoda Solar Farm will be developed and operated by UK green power outfit, Telis Energy. 

UK solar power company Elements Green, plan on installing the 800MW Great North Road Solar and Biodiversity facility in the east Midlands region of the UK. 


Europe 

German asset manager CEE Group has merged the entire contents of three existing renewable energy portfolios into a new €500 million repowering fund.16 onshore wind facilities and 23 solar parks across Germany and France will be repowered in between 2027-2030.    

European infrastructure investment firm Marguerite, headquartered in Luxembourg, has closed their third infrastructure fund – Marguerite 3. Total financial commitments amount to over €700 million. 

Multinational Spanish solar company Sonnedix have secured more than €3 billion of finance. The capital will be used to develop further energy storage and hybrid projects across Europe and the UK.

Asia-Pacific 

Australia's national tender process has seen 19 wind, solar and hybrid projects selected for the task of supplying Australian customers with dependable and cost-effective electricity by 2030. Selected projects will be constructed by 2028 and developed by international organizations such as French renewable giant Neoen and UK energy company Lightsource BP. 

Japanese wind power company Eurus Energy is busy developing two onshore wind farms in the Japanese city of Aomori which is located in the Tōhoku region. The Iwaya and Shitsukari wind farms will maintain a combined capacity of 60MW. Both are expected to be commercially viable by 2028.  

The Australian government has sanctioned the construction of an 800MW wind farm in Queensland. Australian renewable energy company Windlab are developing The Prairie Wind Farm project which will consist of 116 wind turbines.


USA 

American wind power company - US Wind will provide renewable energy to Delaware residents in a deal worth $128 million. US Wind will construct the Maryland Offshore Wind Project that will provide carbon free electricity. US Wind have also pledged to invest $200 million in transmission system upgrades.   

Canadian renewable power outfit Innergex has begun commercial operations at their 330MW Boswell Springs Wind Farm, located in Wyoming, USA. Over 2 million customers across 6 western states will receive power generated from this new renewable installation. 

Danish state-owned renewable energy player Orsted has divested a 50% equity stake in 3 US onshore wind projects at $572 million to ECP (Energy Capital Partners), an American investment firm.
