EMCOR UK has engaged with the 10,000 Black Interns programme for the first time, appointing six new interns for six weeks.
Interns Sofia Kamgang-Nkuitche, Ezi Obienu, Zimuzo Obi, Ebun Okuyiga, Buliechi Mgbeokwere and Opeyemi Oso will spend six weeks in paid roles at the company in departments including HR, finance, IT, legal and marketing.
The 10,000 Black Interns programme offers transformative career opportunities to Black students in the United Kingdom. It builds on the successful launch of #100black interns, where leading players in the investment management industry came together to address the underrepresentation of Black talent in their sector.
The six-week EMCOR placement kicked off with an induction programme designed by the EMCOR UK Learning and Development team where they were welcomed by CEO Cheryl McCall and hiring managers. They will be mentored by apprenticeship manager Natalie Henderson and learning and development business partner Jaclyn Lartey and will receive talks from different EMCOR UK employees throughout the programme. They will also take part in a personal branding workshop, and receive interview support and networking guidance, before a graduation event at the end of the programme.
Caroline Joy, Head of Learning and Development at EMCOR UK, said: “The 10,000 Black Interns programme does a fantastic job at helping talented people find opportunities that they might otherwise miss out on. We are committed to creating and supporting a diverse workforce and this programme supports those ambitions. We’ll be keen to explore future opportunities with the interns if both parties are interested, and at the very least we hope to showcase the FM sector and give them a great experience to take forward for the next stage in their careers.”
