Read Full ArticleA management buy-out of the FM division of the Mace Group, Mace Operate, will now be known under its former name “Macro”.
In 2020, Mace stopped using the Macro brand as it became Mace Operate, led by Ross Abbate. Ross has now led the management buy-out of Mace Operate, which will be known once again as Macro. Macro will also be independent of the wider Mace Group, although it will act as a “preferred supplier” for Mace Group’s facilities management services. The separation will also allow Mace Group to “focus on its core service offerings more closely”.
Deputy Chair of Mace Group Mark Holmes, who stepped down from the executive board after 27 years in September 2023, will become Chair of Macro. A transitional services agreement is in place for the next nine months.
Macro employs over 700 people and has an annual turnover of £130 million.
Ross Abbate, Macro’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Over the past 21 years, Macro has established itself as a leading facilities management expert under the umbrella of the Mace Group – and now, as an independent company we will be able to build on that success to invest in new and transformed services for our clients and create fantastic new opportunities for Macro colleagues across the globe. Chris and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to lead this brilliant team on the next step in our journey together.”
Mark Reynolds, Mace Group’s Chair and Chief Executive, added: “As the group’s core services have gone from strength to strength over the past few years, it has been clear that there is more opportunity for Macro to grow as an independent business. The team will now be able to invest in the innovation and infrastructure required to develop and grow a world-leading facilities management service.
“We understand the power of an independent company owned and led by those who understand it best. We look forward to working with Ross and Chris as they build their new business – and we wish them every success in the future.”
