Women Represent Two-Thirds of Elior UK’s Board Following the Appointment of Jo-Anne Robertson as its New Managing Director for Education & Healthcare

Jo-Anne Robertson has been promoted to Managing Director Education & Healthcare for leading contract caterer Elior UK, increasing female representation of its board to almost 70 per cent.

Jo-Anne joined Elior UK in 2008 as the operational and business lead for the defence multi-activity contracts in the south of England and was promoted in 2018 to Managing Director for Elior UK’s business and industry division. In her new role, Robertson has joined the UK leadership team with responsibility for developing and directing strategy, business development, and growth across the education and healthcare divisions.

Commenting on her new role, Jo-Anne said: “I am excited to join Elior UK’s executive leadership team and to have the opportunity to develop its education and healthcare business. It is wonderful to work for a company that takes such pride in the services it provides for its clients and customers but also values its people and strives to create a diverse and inclusive workforce.”

Catherine Roe, CEO of Elior UK, said: “I am delighted that Jo-Anne has been appointed Managing Director Education & Healthcare as she has extensive strategic and tactical experience across diverse business segments in both the private and public sector and has successfully developed our business and industry business over the last four years.

“At Elior UK, we are passionate about diversity and inclusion and I am proud that we have such strong female representation on our board. Like her fellow executive team members, Jo-Anne is committed to championing diversity and the development of all those who are part of her team.”

Elior UK’s board consists of nine members of which six are women, including the CEO.

Rees Bramwell appointed Head of Nutrition & Sustainability at Eurest & 14forty

Senior Nutritionist Rees Bramwell has been promoted to Head of Nutrition & Sustainability at contract caterer Eurest and its sister company, facilities management provider, 14forty.

Appointed in 2018 as Eurest and 14forty’s first permanent in-house nutritionist, Rees has since made a name for himself in the industry. He was consequently crowned Healthy Eating Champion at this year’s Foodservice Cateys Awards.

Rees has established a range of innovative initiatives to help drive the businesses, and their clients, towards Climate Net-Zero goals. His specialist knowledge of nutrition has allowed him to develop menus which nudge the UK workforce, which Eurest and 14forty serve, into healthier eating choices, which are also better for the planet.

Success stories have included the plant-based Plantilicious range, launched in 2020, and more recently a Good Stuff menu which features dishes with reduced meat content that hero wholegrains and seasonal veg.

It’s testament to Rees’ work that the Eurest and 14forty menu framework is now 51 per cent plant based, increased from 30 per cent in 2019.

The companies’ Managing Director Morag Freathy said: “Rees sums up what Eurest and 14forty are about, because he is constantly thinking what more he can do in his role to help improve the lives of others.

“His work in the field of nutrition has been outstanding, nudging our client’s people into healthier choices. Now he has also brought his passion for sustainability to the table, including studying for an MSc in Sustainability and bringing that learning back to the business. His work is driving the business towards our goal to be Climate Net-Zero by 2030 and helping clients meet their own sustainability goals, too.”

Rees also drives the food waste reduction strategy by combining robust monitoring tools with developing kitchen culture, including the launch of root-to-tip recipe range Plenty.

He said: “It’s an honour to be named Head of Nutrition & Sustainability. I’ve always believed that the two fit together in a healthy food system for people and planet, the make-up of our diet and foods journey from farm to fork are so important.

“It’s an exciting time at Eurest and 14forty and we have other projects in the pipeline to ensure we don’t rest here and drive towards our Climate Net-Zero target.

“We also want to take our client partners on the journey with us. We constantly talk to them about how we can work in partnership, not just on decarbonisation but holistically on progressive ESG initiatives”

Cleanology Appoints new COO to Support Growth Plans

Cleanology has appointed its first-ever COO, to support the company’s national expansion programme. As Chief Operating Officer, Edd Horler will manage day-to-day operations across the UK, which run from Scotland to the South Coast.

Dominic Ponniah, CEO at Cleanology, described the move as an essential strategy to ensure that the company maintains the same high level of service as it moves into new markets. The company has undergone rapid growth over the last year, expanding its customer base from three to 17 UK cities.

Ponniah said: “It is important not to lose focus on the essential goals of delivering a high-quality and efficient service as you scale the business. Over the next three years, we plan to build four regional hubs, and I’m absolutely delighted that Edd has joined Cleanology to support our growth journey and help manage increasingly complex operations.”

Edd Horler has overseen large teams and projects for advertising giant JCDecaux and City Facilities, where he managed contracts for Asda and M&S. Horler said: “I was drawn to the entrepreneurial flair of Cleanology, along with values that I have been used to – client and customer-led principles, as well as environmental excellence, fair pay and placing real value on the work done by colleagues at every level of the business.”

Moving forward, Horler said his role will be to support Cleanology as it grows, while also growing the team and increasing sustainability across the whole model.

Meanwhile, Cleanology has also appointed Ryan Jex as Regional Director for the North – Cleanology’s fastest-growing business area.

Jex will introduce Cleanology innovation and sustainability to a recent acquisition, as well as managing day-to-day operations in that region. Ponniah said: “With a unique blend of sales and operational experience, Ryan will be a fantastic addition to the team. He has a really good understanding of what is needed to deliver a premium service.”

Willmott Dixon Announces Main Board Appointments

Willmott Dixon is making two key appointments to its Main Board from 1 January 2023.

The first will see Chief Sustainability Officer Julia Barrett promoted to the Board as director responsible for sustainability and non-financial compliance.  Julia has guided the company’s sustainability strategy over the past decade, including the aim to become a zero-carbon business by 2030 through the Now or Never strategy.  Alongside sustainability, her remit will also include being the Board representative for the company’s health, safety and environment approach.

Also joining as Non-Executive Director (NED) is Juliette Stacey, whose previous roles include being Group Chief Executive at engineering company Mabey and Chief Operating Officer (UK and Europe) for Savills.  Juliette is also a NED at companies that include Fuller, Smith & Turner and Renishaw, and her appointment is part of Willmott Dixon’s succession planning, with Christopher Sheridan retiring as NED in May 2023 after 25 years.

Group chief executive Rick Willmott says, “I’m delighted to welcome both Julia and Juliette to the Board. Julia’s promotion is recognition for her work shaping our sustainability strategy and driving forward our zero-carbon commitments, which has seen a 68% reduction in carbon emissions (relative to turnover) since 2010.

“Likewise, Juliette, who will chair our Audit Committee when Christopher steps down, brings a wealth of experience from senior positions both within and outside our industry and her financial and technical knowledge will greatly complement our existing depth of experience.”

These are the latest Board appointments; in July this year, the company announced that Julie Hirigoyen, Chief Executive at UK Green Building Council, was joining as a NED.

New Managing Director Appointed at MSS Group

Facilities management company MSS Group has announced the appointment of Jonathan James as Managing Director, taking over the role from CEO Bill Mayne.

Having worked at MSS for over 12 years, Mr James brings a wealth of experience to the role, successfully leading operations in the MSS Environmental team. MSS Group founder Bill Mayne will continue to work within the Group, supporting the leadership team in taking the business forward.

As Managing Director, Mr James will oversee MSS Group’s strategic operations in highly regulated and frequently hazardous environments, providing industrial and commercial cleaning, waste management, asbestos removal, water treatment, and security services with a 600-strong workforce.

MSS Group Founder and CEO Bill Mayne said: “We have seen exceptional growth at MSS Group, especially in recent, record-breaking years. Jonathan has played a fundamental role in building MSS through the Environmental team, and I have every confidence that he will help steer the business to even greater heights from this new position.”

Commenting on his appointment, Mr James said: “I am delighted to take on this role, having been a part of its impressive journey to date. I look forward to working with the whole Group, as MSS continues its exceptional growth and development.”

Established in 2005 and now one of Wales’ top companies, Cardiff-based MSS Group serve large multinational businesses, tier one contractors and public sector bodies, building a reputation for high levels of responsiveness, a focus on proactive client management and delivering the best outcomes for clients.

MSS Group was acquired by RSK Group earlier this year, a leading integrated environmental, engineering, and technical services business offering bespoke end-to-end solutions to a variety of sectors.

Headquartered in the UK but with an established presence throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, RSK helps organisations around the world achieve their business aspirations in a sustainable and efficient manner. The deal has seen MSS’ national and international markets expand, following a record-breaking year of rising revenue and pre-tax profits.

WeMaintain Continues Expansion with New Chief Product Officer

At this year’s SIMI – an event in Paris for real estate professionals to share innovations in the future of cities – WeMaintain announced the appointment of their new Chief Product Officer, Matthieu Laflèche.

Matthieu Laflèche spent over 10 years in the US as the Product Manager of the world’s leading online travel agency, Expedia, honing his expertise in responding to real user problems. He will now take charge of WeMaintain’s ten-strong product development team.

Benoit Dupont, Co-Founder of WeMaintain, said: “It took us more than six months to find a candidate of Matthieu’s calibre, so we’re delighted to have him onboard. He has valuable experience in the United States in an environment of rapid and agile technological innovation. He has also demonstrated an ability to empathise with users’ needs and to lead large teams effectively.

“Matthieu will support the long-term vision of our technological product to effectively meet our business objectives and the needs of our multiple users: building managers, engineers and of course owners. This proves that our product is central to a fast-developing and increasingly international sector. Matthieu is a guru in the requirements of startups, especially their growth.”

Matthieu graduated from Central Lyon with an engineering degree and holds a master's degree in management from the University of Southampton in England. He has spent his entire career with the American group Expedia and its B2B subsidiaries.

Matthieu said: “Thanks to WeMaintain, so-called traditional maintenance is now behind us. It is entering the digital era where its development prospects are immense. The challenge of the WeMaintain product is to aggregate, with the help of intelligent algorithms, the data provided by our engineers supported by technology in the field with the data generated by our objects connected to the equipment. This will support our customers in implementing concrete actions to enhance the value of their real estate assets. My first mission will be to define the vision of the product based on the existing model, combining the best of the people and the technology.”
