NHS IT Services Supplier Victim of Ransomware Attack

It has been confirmed that a ransomware attack is causing a major outage for NHS IT systems.

Services affected include software used by NHS 111 and other patient notes and visitor booking services.

Advanced, the Birmingham-based software company with  2,700 employees, said it first became aware of a problem at 07:00 BST on 4 August and is now working to restore services, but it could take up to four weeks.

According to the BBC, it is not known whether patient data has been compromised or whether they have been any negotiations with the hackers.

Many have taken to social media to question whether more needs to be done to increase cybersecurity in the NHS:
