Read Full ArticleAs part of the Bankside Yards masterplan, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has signed a pre-development hotel management agreement for a new luxury hotel and branded residences.
The overall property is being developed by an international real estate consortium including Hotel Properties Limited, Native Land Limited and Amcorp Properties Berhad.
Both the hotel itself and the wider Bankside Yards neighbourhood are designed by PLP Architecture.

Scheduled to open in 2028, Mandarin Oriental Bankside is the group’s third London hotel. The property has planning consent, which was obtained in December 2020 by London-based developer Native Land on behalf of SHL. Subject to final amendments, the hotel will feature 171 guestrooms, and 70 branded residences.
The hotel will benefit from being part of what is planned to be the UK’s first operationally fossil fuel-free major mixed-use development.
Mandarin Oriental Bankside is part of the wider Bankside Yards development, which is centred around the historic railway arches that run through the heart of the site. The rail viaduct and its distinct arches are to be “transformed in a manner that celebrates their spatial qualities” according to architect PLP.
As well as the Mandarin Oriental Bankside hotel, the proposal also considers Falcon Point, a residential building with ground-level retail and cultural uses as well as the Founder’s Arms public house.
Construction of the first phase at Bankside Yards, known as Western Yards, started in late 2019, including new office building Arbor. It is hoped that this masterplan will create a significant destination quarter and gateway for the borough of Southwark.
