Cistermiser Flush Valve Wins Water Saving Commercial Product of the Year at the Energy Saving Awards

Cistermiser Flush Valve Wins Water Saving Commercial Product of the Year at the Energy Saving Awards
12 December 2023

UK manufacturer Cistermiser has been recognised at the Energy Saving Awards 2023 for its water-efficient control valve for mains-fed urinals.

The company took home the Water Saving Commercial Product of the Year prize for its Direct Flush Discreet (DFD) control valve.

The valve is controlled by hidden sensors to ensure flushes only happen after they have been used or when a hygiene flush is required. Urinals account for 20 per cent of water use in average office-based environments, and many are flushed intermittently regardless of use – which could be wasting thousands of litres of water a day.  Each DFD valve can save approximately 142,080 litres of water a year, based on footfall of 15-20 people per hour, 260 days per year.

DFD also won the Water Efficient Innovation Award category at the Bathroom Manufacturers Association Sustainability Awards in October 2023.

Richard Braid, Cistermiser’s Managing Director, said: “We are absolutely thrilled and elated to learn that the DFD has won another water efficiency award. Achieving two prestigious accolades in close succession is testament to the water savings that DFD delivers, without performance being compromised. The DFD perfectly illustrates the opportunities and scope there is to help businesses significantly reduce their water usage. The DFD is also an incredibly cost-effective solution, with payback typically achieved in just eight months.

“Cistermiser designs, develops and manufactures innovative products that minimise water wastage in commercial and public sector washrooms, which in turn also reduce energy use and carbon emissions. We are wholly committed to supporting organisations to improve their water efficiency, and offer solutions that prevent unnecessary urinal flushing, rectify ‘leaky loos’ and intelligently control the amount of water used by taps and showers.”
