Meanwhile NG Bailey has bought the Freedom Group; Vertas will do Skanska's school dirty work; Norse Group has added £100 million to its pipeline; Serco and NorthLink Ferries have partnered with Alzheimer Scotland; Mitie have won at the Roofing Awards; and Jeremy Ford joined Gather & Gather.

 

NorthLink Ferries partners with Alzheimer Scotland

NorthLink Ferries and Serco have partnered with Alzheimer Scotland to take part in the charity’s Dementia Friends programme to ensure that all its crews are fully trained to assist its passengers living with dementia.

The two organisations have come together to offer training to NorthLink Ferries staff and crewmembers, helping them recognise the symptoms and support travelling passengers effectively.

Seumas Campbell, Serco’s Customer Service Director at NorthLink Ferries, said: “The sessions focus on helping our staff and crewmembers learn a little more about what it’s like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action. We hope that by doing this we encourage those who are affected by dementia to travel with us safe in the knowledge that we will do our upmost to ensure they have a relaxed journey.

“We are proud to not only be equipping our staff with training, but also having the opportunity to raise awareness amongst our local communities.” 

Stuart Garrett, Serco’s MD of NorthLink Ferries, added: “The training is one of a range of initiatives we plan to undertake this year to support every facet of society. We will be rolling out a number of sessions across our ship and shore operations in the coming weeks and months.”

Sarah Geoghegan, Dementia Advisor at the charity, commented: “We are thrilled that NorthLink Ferries has taken part in our Dementia Friends programme, joining over 57,000 people across Scotland – that’s now one per cent of the Scottish population - who have also taken part in the initiative to help create communities where people living with dementia feel more understood and included."


Engie Comes On Board The Energy Observer

Engie has become the principal partner of Energy Observer, the world’s first boat to be powered only by hydrogen and renewable energies, an experimental laboratory focused on energy autonomy.

Throughout its journey, Engie's expertise and the crew’s imagination will combine in a series of special reports highlighting innovative energy solutions that reconcile performance and sustainability.

Energy Observer is an electric propulsion vessel operating through a mix of renewable energies and a system producing hydrogen from seawater, which achieves the technical feat of generating its own energy with zero greenhouse gas emissions.

In 2017, the crew sailed around France; in 2018, they will explore the Mediterranean, before setting off around the world. With 50 countries to visit and  101 ports of call, Energy Observer will sail around the world in six years.


Norse Group Set To Add £100 Million Of New Business

The Norse Group is set to add almost £100 million of new business forward orders including a new partnership deal with Daventry District Council, due commence trading on June 4, worth around £60 million over the 10-year life of the agreement.

Sales Director Geoff Tucker says that to date new contracts for 2017/18 represent an annual turnover value of over £17 million, which will top £18 million by the time March - when the firm's financial year ended - is added in.

Tucker also says that the projected total annual figure for new business equates to a forward order book value of around £100million, taking the company’s total forward orders to more than £2 billion of sustainable business.

“Our operating divisions, which are mainly based in Norfolk and Suffolk, have had the best year in the company’s history in terms of winning contracts,” he said.  “Our current partnerships with local authorities around the country have also generated significant new business, providing additional vital revenue for council partners to the benefit of the local communities.”


Vertas Cleans Up With £2.9 Million Skanska Contract

The Vertas Group has agreed a contract to deliver an integrated soft facilities management services solution to five Essex schools built and operated by Skanska, until 31st December 2021.

The contract starts on 1st April 2018 and will see Vertas providing Woodlands School, Castle View School, Cornelius Vermuyden School, Columbus School and College with cleaning, grounds maintenance, recycling and waste management, pest prevention, specialist kitchen cleaning and window cleaning services.

The five schools provide education for a total of 2,240 students. As part of the new service Vertas will run waste management, segregation and recycling sessions for staff and students to help them reduce their environmental impact. This will be supported with the installation of new waste segregation recycling bins throughout the sites.

The cleaning process will also be gentler on the environmental with fewer chemicals and less water used in the cleaning process.

The contract will also provide benefits to cleaning staff working in the schools. Specialist equipment, such as trollies and mopping systems, has been selected to reduce staff fatigue, lower the risk of repetition strain injury and potential hazards.

Vertas has made a significant investment in the i-mop technology which uses less water, a battery rather than trailing wires and offers less risk of back strain. The latest generation microfibre cloths remove greasy finger marks and stubborn dirt without the use of chemicals – they are used with water alone and trap 99.9% of bacteria

Smart devices located in washrooms means that the team is alerted when soap in dispensers run low, meaning hygiene can be maintained without the need for wasted trips to check stock levels.


NG Bailey Extends Its Engineering And Services Capabilities With Acquisition Of Freedom Group

NG Bailey, the UK’s largest independent engineering, IT and facilities services business, has completed the acquisition of Freedom Group, a provider of facilities and power engineering services.

The expanded business will have a turnover of more than £600 million a year and provides an opportunity for NG Bailey to extend its range of services and develop a presence in new sectors, specifically the electricity distribution network market. The sector is set for significant expansion over the coming years, with new technologies supporting the rapid growth of low carbon power generation in the UK and the development of increased battery storage capacity.

For more than 20 years Freedom has provided engineering capital replacement projects and hard FM maintenance services, particularly within utilities through its four divisions - Infrastructure Services, Networks, Power and Professional Services.

The acquisition also increases NG Bailey’s capabilities in sectors such as defence and airports, as well as expanding its engineering and maintenance services across major infrastructure portfolios, such as data centre telecoms and ports.

As part of the NG Bailey Group, Freedom’s existing management team will continue to run the £120m turnover business under the existing brand.


Roofing Award

Mitie has been awarded the Gold standard in this year’s Safety in Roofing Awards.

Run by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), this is the seventh year in a row that Mitie has been awarded Gold by the UK’s largest roofing trade association.

The NFRC recognised that Mitie has comprehensive health and safety procedures in place, complies with relevant codes of practise, carries out ongoing training and achieves a consistently low accident rate.


Jeremy Ford Joins Gather & Gather

Gather & Gather (part of the Mitie group) has appointed Jeremy Ford as Director of Food. Based in London, Ford will join the company's senior leadership team, taking responsibility for culinary development across Gather & Gather and its specialist events business Creative Events.


Healthy Living

Sodexo has become the first caterer in Scotland to achieve the healthyliving plus award across all food services at multiple contract sites.

The Sodexo team at Scottish Government achieved 18 healthyliving plus awards across nine sites serving more than 7,000 customers daily, with awarded services encompassing restaurants, coffee shops, in-room hospitality and vending.

The plus award requires a greater level of dedication and effort in order to meet the higher-level criteria. This includes ensuring that 70% of all food meets the award guidelines, with at least 50% of menu choices meeting the award guidelines in each section of the menu including confectionary, bakery and crisps, and avoiding the promotion of non-healthyliving choices and keeping sugary drinks to a minimum.
