Portico Boosts Operations Management Team with Promotion of Marco Scaglioni

Marco Scaglionli has been appointed as Portico’s newest operations manager.

The provider of tailored guest services has boosted its operations management team through Scaglioni’s promotion to support the company’s ambitious business growth.

In his new role, Scaglioni will be responsible for Portico’s service delivery across a number of client sites, as well as mobilising new contracts across corporate, insurance, banking and multi-office locations.

With seven years’ experience at Portico, Scaglioni has experienced the business and its operations from the ground up. Starting as a receptionist in a front of house team, he has worked his way up and developed the skills needed to effectively manage relationships with the teams, clients, building users and partners to ensure the best service delivery.

Marco Scaglioni, Operations Manager at Portico said: “I love the trust and autonomy that Portico offers and am thrilled to be able to lead my team to deliver a service that is of the highest standard, for them and for our clients. I’m looking forward to exploring new opportunities and bringing innovations to the way we work and to play my part in pushing the business forward.”

Oliver Hiner, Director of Operations at Portico added: “We are thrilled to see Marco achieve this milestone in his career with Portico. He has a real vision and work ethic to make a positive contribution to the business and it’s exciting to see him transmit that positive attitude to the people he works with. At Portico, we pride ourselves on really understanding our clients and how we can add value and Marco is going to be key to that as we navigate how the workplace is changing.”

Compass Group UK & Ireland appoints Chris Chidley as Chief Growth Officer

Chris Chidley has been appointed as Compass Group UK & Ireland’s Chief Growth Officer, following a successful 12 months overseeing sales while also running the Compass Group Ireland business. Chris has returned to the UK full-time and will remain Chair of Compass Ireland.

Despite the challenges that COVID has brought, under Chidley's leadership Compass Group UK & Ireland has achieved exponential growth. Chidley has been in the Compass business for over nine years, with a strong track record in sales as well as operations. Following his successful 3 year tenure in Ireland where he brought a great passion for driving community engagement and local sourcing, Chidley will be focused on building strategic partnerships to deliver for communities, alongside his growth agenda.

Commenting on his appointment, Chidley said: “We have a compelling offer for clients that enables us to support them across all sectors, whatever their size. Our business is no longer just about food on the plate - it’s about the wider eco-system from farm to fork.

“We are prioritising our commitments to Net Zero, diversity and inclusion, as well digital capability and are aligned to what our clients care about, all while working to achieve a best in class customer experience. We have a market leading proposition and the ability to affect real change through the work that we do.

“Heading up the Ireland business was an enormous privilege and I learnt a lot - in particular how the Irish passion for food plays such an important role within the community – with a strong focus on local sourcing. I am excited by the opportunities that exist for our UK & I business.”

Robin Mills, Managing Director, Compass Group UK & Ireland added: “I am delighted to appoint Chris to this new role. Having worked in both sales and operations he is well placed to understand how to deliver great results for clients and also identify new market opportunities. He has had a really positive impact on the Irish business, and in his role as Chair of Compass Ireland will continue to support the team and build on what he has achieved to date.”

Chidley was recently awarded Irish-UK Business Person of the Year by The Register of Irish Business Excellence (TRIBE). The accreditation celebrates his outstanding contribution to industry and commerce between Ireland and the UK. The honour was created by the AIBF to pay homage to the ex-pat community's positive impact towards business in Ireland.

BAM appoints Head of Social Impact

Danielle (Danni) Aberg has been appointed as BAM Construct UK’s Head of Social Impact. The newly created role reports directly to Chief Executive, James Wimpenny.

Aberg has over 16 years’ experience in the field of social value and diversity and inclusion. She joins BAM having set up her own consultancy providing strategic advice and services to a range of clients to shape and deliver their social value strategies.

Most recently, she was involved in developing and leading the social value program for the Welsh Government Mutual Investment Model, delivering a £500m schools infrastructure program across Wales, and has worked for the Construction Industry Training Board and Bouygues. She studied at Cardiff Metropolitan University and the Chartered Management Institute.

"Construction is more than just bricks and mortar, we are helping to shape communities, creating local jobs and training, delivering modern sustainable buildings, and inspiring the next generation through engagement in education."

Head of Social Impact, BAM Construct UK

James Wimpenny, Chief Executive of BAM Construct UK, said: “Creating social value is a key objective for many of our construction, FM and property clients. It is deeply embedded in our own culture and business strategy.

“Danni will ensure that we focus our efforts in a coordinated way across our construction regions and business units, drawing it together with our wider sustainability and procurement approaches, and driving our social impact.”

BAM is part of the first wave of schemes to trial the Construction Industry Hub’s Social Value Toolkit, having worked closely with the Hub on its range of innovative approaches to modernise construction. Recently the company measured the social value of eight of its projects, determining that they raised over £150 million of social value-added alone. Some public sector bids are now looking for 10-20% of the contract value to be generated in social value.

Danni Aberg, who lives in Wales, said: “I am delighted to join BAM at such an exciting time when the social value landscape is advancing right across the UK. Construction is more than just bricks and mortar, we are helping to shape communities, creating local jobs and training, delivering modern sustainable buildings, and inspiring the next generation through engagement in education.

“BAM’s approach to delivering sustainable impact through grassroots engagement that listens, learns and takes action on local priorities, will serve as a catalyst for local growth and prosperity, and I am very much looking forward to working with colleagues, customers and communities to drive forward our positive impact ambitions.”
