Sodexo has won the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust contract and Chesterfield Royal Hospital has also confirmed an extension to Sodexo's catering contract.

This is the first time the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Trust has outsourced its catering services and will see Sodexo introduce a range of culinary developments such as a new electronic ordering system for patients and new meal trolleys to ensure a seamless service from kitchen to bedside. Sodexo will also offer expanded opening hours as well as high-street alternatives meaning that staff working at nights will find it easier to have a meal in their breaks.

Dr Kirsty Edmondson Jones, Director of Estates and Facilities at the Trust, said: “It is our intention to provide the best possible catering services for those who come to our hospitals and we believe this investment will allow us to offer a top notch and varied dining experience for the people of Doncaster, Bassetlaw, Mexborough and beyond.”

Sodexo has worked with Chesterfield Royal for almost twenty years to deliver patient dining.  The new contract, which started on 1 October, remains ‘cook freeze’ with a combination of Tillery Valley meals and onsite produced general menu products along with an extensive in-house produced special diet menu range which caters for 14 different special diet categories.

Chris Tann, Director of Estates and Facilities at Chester Royal Hospital said; “Excellent nutrition, a variety of choice and the ability to cater for every individual’s dietary needs is a priority for both our board of directors and council of governors.  We have worked with Sodexo for a number of years and they have always met our expectations when it comes to patient dining.”

Fulham Road renews with ISS UK

Three NHS Foundation Trusts have awarded ISS Facility Services - Healthcare a major five year contract after a competitive procurement process. The Fulham Road Collaborative (FRC) deal is worth more than £100 million over the term.

The Fulham Road Collaborative has facilities across the area in west London. Associate hospitals include the Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust.

This soft facilities management agreement is the second one awarded to ISS – a similar contract ran from January 2012. The new partnership will see ISS extend their presence to include waste management, whilst still providing a wide range of services, including healthcare cleaning, patient catering, portering and logistics, linen and laundry, reception, and car parking. ISS were also successful in their tender to provide commercial retail services to the staff, visitors and patients at the Chelsea & Westminster and Harefield hospitals.

New FM Operations Director at NICS

NIC Services Group has announced that Matthew Paxton has joined their team in the role of FM Operations Director.

Carillion awarded Network Rail contracts

Carillion has won two contract awards, both in respect of Network Rail’s Midland Mainline improvement programme. Carillion has signed a contract with Network Rail to upgrade the existing track and infrastructure on the route from London to Corby. The contract is expected to generate revenues for the Group of £62 million over the next two and a half years.

Carillion Powerlines, a 50:50 Joint Venture with Powerlines Group, has signed a contract with Network Rail in respect of the Midland Mainline Electrification programme.  Under the contract, Carillion Powerlines will undertake work to complete the electrification of the route from London to Corby.  The contract is expected to generate revenue for the Joint Venture of c£260 million over the next three years and work will commence shortly.

Under pressure Keith Cochrane, Interim Chief Executive of the firm with a substantial FM arm, said: "We are pleased to have agreed these awards with Network Rail, demonstrating that we continue to have the support of key customers and win important new contracts. The Group faces significant challenges but we remain focused on executing our disposals programme, taking cost out and strengthening our balance sheet."
