Warranty Wasters - Firms Not Getting What They Pay For

28 April 2016 | Updated 01 January 1970

At a seminar yesterday (Weds 27), organised to open debate on health and safety, procurement and energy issues, Cloudfm also focussed on issues of stock holding of spares and the ability (or inability) of end-users to track warranties to the extent that equipment is often being repaired at a cost instead of under the terms of those warranties.

Jeff Dewing, Cloud's CEO said: "The way air conditioning units are installed in this country leaves a great deal to be desired at the customer end if not at the contractor end who can end up benefitting from charging for work that really ought to be covered by a warranty. Cloudfm will now offer a 10-year warranty on all Mitsubishi Electric equipment managed on behalf of its clients. We've been awarded BSP (Business Solutions Partner) status with them and we've decided to take their 7-year warranty and underwrite a further 3-years (on all new equipment and parts) on the basis that we will do the required maintenance...and we'll keep track of the warranties - it's the lack of tracking that creates the issue in the first place.

"Through improved traceability, accountability and standardisation, our clients will achieve a far better return on investment over the lifetime of each installation,” continued Dewing. "Equipment eligible for the 10-year warranty will be asset tagged at the factory and can then only be installed, maintained and repaired by Cloudfm approved engineers who hold a Mitsubishi Electric training certificate(s)."
