Demand Surges for Facilities Management Course

18 September 2013 | Updated 01 January 1970

As the start of the new academic year approaches, Leeds College of Building is reporting a major surge in the number of students enrolling on a new Higher Level Apprenticeship in Facilities Management course which offers university level training. This follows a recent report from market research firm Market & Customer Insight that predicts the UK FM market will grow by £10.7bn by 2017 making it worth a total £117bn.

The course, which is approved by The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), is due to start in September and combines facilities management skills and knowledge, development in college and valuable work based assessments that are supported by dedicated teaching and assessment teams.

It is designed for students who have a BTEC Extended Diploma, Diploma, Subsidiary Diploma, a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship or 2 A levels grade A* to E, but those with alternative qualifications and appropriate experience can also be considered.

Sarah Carter Project Manager for Higher Apprenticeships at Leeds College of Building, says: “This will be the second year that we’ve run this course and although last year was a success, this year’s course is generating much higher levels of interest and places are quickly running out.

“With university fees and training costs continually increasing the course is proving popular with both apprentices and employers that want university level training without the costs associated with it.  Plus FM is increasingly seen as an area that offers lots of growth potential which is supported by several industry reports which are also helping to drive interest in the course.”
