Boost for BIM

15 September 2017 | Updated 01 January 1970

Engie has become the first dedicated FM company – and one of the first organisations globally – to achieve the new BSI Kitemark for PAS 1192-3 Specification for information management for the operational phase of assets using building information modelling (BIM).

The achievement recognises Engie’s approach to BIM, a discipline which is enabling the digitalisation of services to customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their building, which will deliver a number of benefits. These include improved asset management to reduce operating and energy costs, increasing asset value and enhancing customer satisfaction.

The Kitemark for PAS 1192-3 has been developed to help companies involved in asset management demonstrate that they have successfully integrated BIM into the processes. As such, it recognises the significant challenges faced by asset managers in managing information pertaining to the maintenance, performance and legal compliance of assets.

To comply with the new Kitemark, companies must demonstrate that any information held about an asset has been defined and managed in accordance with BIM Level 2. It also ensures that the asset owner’s requirements are clearly defined and complied with.

James Spires, Strategy Director – Services at Engie UK said: “The use of data-enriching, 3D information brings buildings digitally to life, giving us the opportunity to combine our human assets with IT technologies and engage in new business models with customers.

“The new Kitemark for BIM provides reassurance from a trusted and independent body of a strong approach to digital asset management.”

Andy Butterfield, Director of Built Environment, Product Certification at BSI said: “Achieving this Kitemark will undoubtedly bring a number of benefits, not just reduced operating costs and improved energy efficiency but reassurance for clients that they’re working with partners at the highest possible standard.

“The built environment is being transformed by new and evolving digital solutions and BSI is focused on supporting organisations, such as Engie through this digital transformation. From BIM to Smart Cities, Digital Built Britain to the UK Government’s 2025 construction strategy, we’re committed to helping organisations continually improve their products and services, ensuring their business is resilient.”
