City Car Club and Toyota in 15 UK Cities

06 September 2013 | Updated 01 January 1970

City Car Club is reducing the emissions of its fleet by ensuring that members are only issued with Euro 5 (soon to be Euro 6) standard, primarily hybrid vehicles with average carbon emissions under 100g CO2/km. The Club has saved an estimated 30,518 metric tonnes of carbon in just 12 months.
Neil Broad, General Manager at Toyota and Lexus Fleet Services says: “More and more businesses are finally getting to see the financial and environmental benefits which can be achieved by switching their fleet to hybrid. City Car Club are a good example of how choosing this technology can tick both boxes.”

The reduction of City Car Club’s vehicle emissions has been helped tremendously by moving to a predominantly Toyota based fleet. With Toyota recently being named the ‘Worlds Greenest Brand’ by Interbrand, it’s no wonder City Car Club’s car fleet is now over 80% Toyota’s - featuring models such as the Aygo, Yaris, Prius, Verso and now the Auris Touring Sport. The Auris is one of two Toyota cars that are made solely in the UK, using parts largely made by British manufacturers.

Environmental impact is a big driver behind the concept of City Car Club whose aim is to reduce car usage and thus clean up inner city air. The Club encourages the use of public transport whilst providing the member base with a vehicle for the occasions when a car or van is required. Members have access to hourly car and van rental 24/7/365 as an alternative to ownership. 700+ low emission vehicles are located in on street parking baysacross 15 UK cities including Manchester, Edinburgh and London.

According to Transport Minister Norman Baker: “Each Car Club vehicle can result in taking 24 private vehicles off the road and the low carbon vehicles emit approximately 33% less CO2 than the average car. This is why we are supporting the continued growth of car clubs across the country.”
