Facilicom has been shortlisted for the final of the inaugural European Cleaning & Hygiene Awards 2016, taking place in Barcelona in September.

Its entry ‘Horses for Courses’ is for the training it has introduced to the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the UK using horses to examine and develop participants’ management style and skills.

UK MD, Jan-Hein Hemke, said: “Across the Group we train and develop our colleagues to ensure they maximise their potential. Working with horses is an innovative approach that is paying off, as the horses enable participants to examine their behaviour in a safe environment and to identify the underlying causes of development areas.” (ThisWeekinFM has reported this verbatim but has no idea what it means.)

Nine years to go free range instead of not serving eggs from caged birds

Sodexo announced this week that it will only use cage free eggs (both shell and liquid) worldwide by 2025 whilst claiming that the nine years it will take to achieve this bolsters its reputation as an industry leader on corporate responsibility.

Sodexo will take advice from Compassion in World Farming, the Humane Society International and The Humane League to define and implement an action plan to ensure the company and its suppliers can achieve this goal. “For a company like Sodexo, with operations in 80 countries at more than 32,000 sites, and who sources approximately a quarter of a billion shell eggs worldwide on an annual basis, addressing animal welfare is a significant undertaking, due to the complexities of our supply chain and differences in agriculture practices around the world. Given our commitment to sourcing responsibly, we are focused on building partnerships with suppliers, authorities and farm animal welfare NGOs, to achieve progress and educate stakeholders about the issue.” said Neil Barrett, Sodexo Group SVP Sustainable Development.

Angel Central

Incentive FM has been awarded a £2 million, three-year contract by CBRE to provide security and cleaning at Angel Central Shopping Centre in Islington, London.

A team of six cleaners will operate seven days a week from 5am - 11pm and a 12-strong security team will operate 24/7 providing manned guarding and management of the security control room.

Keeping Data Demons at Bay

Leeds City Council has chosen Keysource to provide vital support for its data centres in and around the city centre. It follows a competitive tender.

The terms of the agreement will include managing a preplanned maintenance programme for all critical equipment to manufacturers’ specifications and frequencies. Emergency cover will also be implemented. Keysource will provide a 24/7/365 emergency repair service with a guaranteed response time onsite in under a maximum of 4 hours. Training will also be provided for LCC staff on all aspects of the data centres and equipment.
