Making Room for Safety

BSRIA has published a new guide to help designers take care to provide safe means of access for installation, maintenance and equipment replacement

Space, and the cost of providing it, for plant and building services distribution, is often at a premium and designers frequently come under pressure to reduce the spatial requirements for building services installations. BSRIA believes that in order to discharge their obligations, designers must take considerable care to provide safe means of access for installation, maintenance and equipment replacement. Its guide is intended for use by designers and provides information on designing for safety for both new build and refurbishment projects.

The guide includes information on:

  • Relevant legislation including CDM.
  • Hazards and risks
  • Space requirements and access provision.
  • Maintenance
  • Plant room design
  • Communication.

A free download of an editable design considerations checklist is provided in Excel format.
