Read Full ArticleAs Pride Month progresses, ThisWeekinFM has collated several resources that businesses in the facilities and workplace management sector can use to help them build a more inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.
The month of June was named as Pride month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969 and is widely thought of as a key moment in the gay liberation movement. As a result, many pride events are usually held during this month to recognise the impact LGBTQ+ people have had in the world.
Within the facilities management industry specifically, the LGBT+ in Facilities Management network group, established in 2016, is working to drive fairness inclusion and respect for LGBT+ people working in the facilities industry organisations. Their mission is to collaborate to make the facilities management sector the most attractive, inclusive and supportive industry for the LGBT+ community in the UK and Ireland
In honour of Pride Month 2022, let’s take a look at some of the resources the group offers for businesses:
LGBT+ in Facilities Management’s inclusive recruitment guide is a tool to help organisations across the FM sector to incorporate inclusive recruitment practices in their business, with the aim to broaden the talent pool.
The guide covers the whole process from job design through to commencement, and enables readers to understand where there may be barriers stopping people from progressing to the next stage of the process.
Based on the collective experience of LGBT+ in Facilities Management’s committee members, the downloadable PDF is a great starting point for businesses looking to reform their recruitment practices.
This short resource provides a guide to the importance of inclusive toilets, the benefits to building owners and users, as well as the main considerations when delivering them.
Providing all gender facilities is an ideal way to signal to employees and visitors staff that your workplace or building is inclusive, safe and supportive. Some might not disclose these needs, especially if they are not confident they are in a safe and supportive space
The guide also addresses common questions and misconceptions about gender-neutral washrooms.
You can sign up for LGBT+ in FM’s quarterly newsletter, to receive a regular roundup of their activities, events, updates on new resources, and talks about what their corporate members have achieved.
The group’s LinkedIn page is also kept up-to-date with interesting facts and figures, and celebrations of notable LGBT+ role models.
