Read Full ArticleWe started the Week with reports from Workplace Week – the Convention on Tuesday and The Visits throughout. So it only seem right to end with Workplace Week and a reprise of our report from the Media City UK Visit which almost coincided with the announcement that Cofely with Peel Media had won the P&FM Award for Partners in Expert Services.
This article was prepared by a Guest Reporter and our thanks go to them and the Advanced Workplace Associates team that organised the events in support of Children in Need.
The visit to Salford Quays was hosted by Chris Jessup and our guest reporter made the number on visit 13. This review is taken from notes compiled at the event
This review is taken from notes compiled at the event. Media City, Salford Quays plays workplace to 2800 people based in three buildings. It has been located here for two-and-a-half years now.
Vibrant atmosphere with uncluttered look supported by WiFi technology. The iconic 'BBC greats picture boards' from Glenda Jackson as Elizabeth 1 to Morecombe and Wise helped to set a fun tone and a relaxed, informal and even intimate feel.
House Sport, children's TV, Breakfast show, North West Tonight, radio 5, 6, and some radio 3 and 4 programmes.
Lovely use of colour to delineate collaborative space. For example delicious red for breakout areas.
Building sharing ratio 10:15. Varies by departments needs over the building.
On going challenge to keep people using electronic filing of paper .
Deliberate decision for open or semi-open collaborative spaces. Therefore, a comparatively low number of meeting rooms and no offices.
’95% of people like working here’.
’When you use the flexible space and WiFi you discover that agile working brings contact with many more people than conventional working practices allows. I found working alongside the 'You and Yours' Radio 4 production team opened my eyes to how good our people are. They are really good at what they do’.
’We use agile working to reduce costs and encourage collaboration between a diversity of departments, people and tasks’.
’Not a case of one size fits all, To facilitate collaboration we also needed to be able to have anyone working in the building anywhere any time. Needs clear leadership and engagement of people in the decision making to make it happen’.
’The furniture works well. The personal storage boxes were afresh and zany design. Our people may like that’.
’I like the way the atmosphere change s depending upon the action level. So the floor with 'on air' activity felt exciting. Meanwhile, Sports was like deserted ship. However it is easy to see the weekend being a hive of activity action’.
’Given how busy the production floor was it was not noisy’.
Photos - not my talent unfortunately, so they may need polished up in Photoshop...They’re just fine as far as ThisWeekinFM is concerned. With thanks to Advanced Workplace Associates.
