Prime Minister Meets EIC Apprentices

09 May 2014 | Updated 01 January 1970

David Cameron has paid a visit to the £33 million retail and residential regeneration project in Shirley town centre in the West Midlands.

The project is bringing leading retailers to the town, creating jobs, increased footfall through the shopping district to create a better experience for shoppers. The construction project got underway in July 2012 after almost eight years of planning challenges and is due for completion in 2014.

BAM Construction is responsible for building a 7,900sq.m ASDA supermarket and 20 retail units, while EIC is the lead M&E contractor on the project. EIC’s apprenticeship programme is a key element of its business improvement strategy.

The Prime Minister talked with the apprentices and was interested to hear their views on the colleges they attended, the areas of the project that they had worked on and their hopes for the future.
